Meta Business Verification: verify your company to use the WhatsApp API

In this article, you’ll learn how to verify your business with Meta, step by step, from Business Manager.

To use the WhatsApp API, Meta needs to confirm that your company is real. This process is called business verification. It’s a Meta requirement: Botmaker can’t do it for you or skip it. It’s free, done online, and only needs to be completed once.

Prerequisites

A Facebook account with admin permissions on your own company’s business portfolio (an agency’s portfolio won’t work).

An active website for your company.

Key concepts

Business Manager: Meta’s platform where your company manages its Pages, ad accounts, and WhatsApp accounts. You can access it at business.facebook.com.

Business Manager ID: the number that identifies your business portfolio. You’ll find it under Business info.

Security Center: the Business Manager section where you start the verification and check its status.

Documents you’ll need

  • Proof of legal registration: your country’s tax registration document (EIN, CUIT, RFC, RUC, NIT, CNPJ, etc.).
  • A utility bill in the company’s name: electricity, gas, phone, or internet.
  • An email address on your company’s domain: for example, you@yourcompany.com. Gmail, Hotmail, and Outlook addresses aren’t accepted.

Note: the legal name and address must match across the registration document, the utility bill, and the details you enter in Meta. Upload your documents as PDFs (not blurry photos), and use an email address on the same domain as your website. These three points prevent most rejections.

How to verify your business

Step 1: Go to business.facebook.com/settings/info and log in with your Facebook account.

Step 2: If this is your first time, click Create account and enter your business name, your name, and your work email. If your company already has a portfolio, select it from the list (don’t create a new one).

Step 3: Under Business info, click Edit and enter the legal name, address, phone number, website, and tax ID exactly as they appear on your documents.

Step 4: In the left-hand menu, click Security Center.

Step 5: If you see the Start verification button, go to Step 6. If you don’t, copy your Business Manager ID (under Business info) and send it to your Botmaker contact. You’ll receive an invitation under Requests: approve it, refresh the page, and go back to Security Center.

Step 6: Click Start verification, review your details, and continue. If a list of organizations appears and yours isn’t on it, select My business isn’t listed. Upload the registration document first, then the utility bill.

Step 7: Choose how to receive your confirmation code (we recommend email) and enter it when it arrives.

Step 8: Your verification will show as In review. Once it changes to Verified, let your Botmaker contact know so you can connect your WhatsApp line.

Note: Meta usually responds within 48 business hours, but it can take up to 14 business days. You’ll be notified at the email address you used in Step 7. There’s no need to resubmit while you wait.

If Meta rejects your verification

Check the reason in Meta’s email or in Security Center. The most common causes are a name or address that doesn’t match, an email that isn’t on the website’s domain, or a document that can’t be read clearly. Correct the information and resubmit from Security Center. If you have questions, reach out to your Botmaker contact.
