Outgoing Call from WhatsApp

In this article, you'll learn how to request a call from WhatsApp to contact the end user.

Once WhatsApp Business is connected as a voice channel in Botmaker, you can make calls to end users via WhatsApp. Here's how to invite the user to receive calls through this channel.

To maintain account health and avoid being considered spam, WhatsApp regulations require user acceptance of an invitation template before receiving a call.

Steps to Call a User via WhatsApp

Be in a conversation on the WhatsApp channel.

Click "New WhatsApp Call" within the conversation with the user.

A screen will appear to choose a template to send to the user, asking if they want to allow calls.

Interactive Message

The default interactive message looks like this, according to the configured bot language, with three button options:

  • Don't Allow
  • Temporarily Allow
  • Always Allow

Template Creation

Design Your Template: Go to “Notifications Engine” > “Templates.”

Click "New."

In the Marketing templates section, select “Call Permission Template.”

Example

Create the template, publish it, and wait for Meta's approval. Once approved, it can be used to send call permissions. Note it also has the three button options by default.

If the user temporarily accepts the call, they can be contacted for 6 consecutive days. From the seventh day onwards, they must request a new call approval.

Important: Please note that once the user accepts, only 5 calls or call attempts can be made per day. Once this limit is exceeded, you cannot call again until the next day.

The user can call as many times as they wish, regardless of this limitation.
